Lawn Bowling

When I saw an email announcing a company easter celebration will be held in Ryde City Bowling Club, I thought it’s good to play bowling again, but ooops it’s a lawn bowl.

I remember someone was saying it’s a popular sport for elders, got an impression that it’ll be boring so I was a bit slack to confirm my attendance to reserve a seat in the bus but I know I will go.

So yes, it’s a boring sport for me. It is played on the grass known as bowling green and you can play it barefoot. Almost all of us were first-timers so we were first instructed how to play lawn bowl.

We used the same ball weight, the ball has a side called the “bias side”. It is slightly flattened, has a smaller symbol within a smaller circle that causes it to travel a curved path. You roll a ball (or bowl) towards the target ball which is a small white ball called the “jack”, and the team whose ball is closest to the target will receive a point.

Group of four we named our team “The Champion” hehe, win or lose we are the champion. J played very well, M and S were good and I am the worst. We played for awhile, I think we qualified to play for the final round but it was just so boring that we didn’t even bothered to play again.

With free drinks and tasty food, I enjoyed the gathering. It’s nice of them to provide hats and sunscreen as well. And everyone got chocolate bunnies for Easter!
