instant job

Blessing comes when least you expect it.

I was browsing job ads in seek.com when I saw one that says “Interview now, start tomorrow” They have an urgent need of a Java Web Developer for a 3-week contract. Why not? After an hour that I respond to that ad, an agent called me and asked a few questions on my skill sets. Few minutes later, she called again. She asked me if I am available for an interview later that afternoon. I am an hour train away from the city so I said I can’t make it and try to schedule the next day, besides I don’t feel going. But then she called back and said that the client is willing to do a phone interview.

[ag] Do you know Struts?
[me] Yes, biting my lips.

[ag] Can you describe a normal flow of an application using Struts framework?
[me] Blah blah blah.

[ag] You know HTML?
[me] Yes.

[ag] CSS?
[me] Yes, biting my lips again.

[ag] Javascript?
[me] Yes.

[ag] Hibernate?
[me] No, oops.

[ag] Spring?
[me] No, so what now?

[ag] AJAX?
[me] No, no idea.

[ag] Eclipse?
[me] Yes.

[ag] Tomcat?
[me] Yes.

And some other side questions were asked.

Then he started explaining about the project, that he needs a replacement because one of the developers left without finishing the contract and the project is aiming to finish in the next 2 weeks. So why are you telling me all these? Am I hired?

So I got the job and am starting on Thursday! Oh thank God, I needed it badly :)
